The Boomerang plugin (by Baydin) just got some improvements. It is now possible to schedule email in a "separate" compose window, for instance.

Lyn image browser supports Mailplane

Mirko Viviani just released Lyn 1.0.2 with Mailplane integration. Lyn is lightweight and fast image browser that natively supports all popular image formats like JPEG, TIFF, JPEG 2000, PNG, TGA, RAW, HDR, OpenEXR, PPM, animated GIF and any other image format supported by Mac OS X.

To email a picture from within Lyn, select some pictures and press the Mail toolbar item. Just make sure Mailplane is your default email client, the setting can be found in Mailplane > Preferences > Advanced.

BusyCal adds support for Mailplane

BusyCal is a great iCal replacement for your Mac. With the release of the 1.5.1 version, BusyCal adds support for Mailplane. This is great news, as iCal can only use Mail.app to send email.

BusyCal has much more to offer, of course. You can easily sync different calendars, there are recurring todos, live weather feeds, sticky notes, and more. But most importantly, Google Calendar integration is perfect.

Alfred launcher supports Mailplane

The latest Alfred release (starting with 0.7.2) supports Mailplane out of the box.

Just make sure Mailplane is your default Mail application in Mailplane > Preferences > Advanced and use Alfred's Email 'Result Actions' to quickly create emails with attachments:

Using ScreenSteps with Mailplane

ScreenSteps is a great application for creating step-by-step documentation and knowledge bases. It makes it easy to capture screenshots, annotate them with text and arrows, add text and explanation and finally export the complete article in different formats like PDF or HTML.

The latest version now neatly integrates with Mailplane. With the push of button a complete PDF document is exported and easily attached to an email message:

Things app: Quick Entry Autofill for Mailplane

Yesterday, Cultured Code released Things 1.2.2. Guess what's in the release notes:

Quick Entry Autofill now works in Microsoft Word 2008 and Mailplane.

Great! Now it's super easy to create a new to-dos based on email conversations. Most importantly, Things creates a to-do that links back to the Gmail conversation.

Here's how it works:

1. In Mailplane: open a Gmail conversation.

2. Select some text inside the conversation, it'll be added as Things to-do note:

3. Select Mailplane > Services > New To-Do containing selection as note or simply press ⌃⌥⇧⌘0. As a result you'll get the Things Quick Entry dialog:

4. Make your changes and press Save to add the to-do. After the dialog closes, the to-do can be found in your Things inbox. Just click the email link and your conversation will magically open inside Mailplane.

Email Picasa photos with Mailplane

Google announced "Picasa for Mac" at MacWorld 2009:

Picasa for Mac looks and works much like Picasa on other platforms, and offers trademark Picasa features — such as non-destructive editing, and the ability to keep track of photos anywhere on your hard drive, then automatically account for new images as you add them. Right now, Picasa for Mac is still in Google Labs, but we very much wanted to get an early version out to folks attending Macworld (you can learn more about this beta release at the Google Photos blog). To run Picasa, you'll need an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.4 and above. We hope you'll give it a spin, and give us your feedback in person — members of the Picasa engineering team will be conducting demos at Google's Macworld booth all week (you can also check out the video tour below).

Like iPhoto, Picasa has an "Email" button to compose emails in Mailplane. Just make sure Mailplane is your default email application (see Preferences/Advanced). Then go to Picasa's preferences/Email and set Mailplane as your email app.

Many Mailplane users asked for Google Calendar integration. Now Google released new Google Lab features to embed calender and documents in the Gmail sidebar. The latest Mailplane 2.0 release supports these two features.

To get you started, we've worked with the engineers from the Calendar and Docs teams on two highly requested features: a simple way to see your Google Calendar agenda and get an alert when you have a meeting, and a gadget that shows a list of your recently accessed Google Docs and lets you search across all of your documents right from within Gmail.

Tip: To customize your sidebar, try the Navbar drag and drop lab feature.
